OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in May of 2012, via the East

Per chevron throughout sable and Or, a rapier sable entwined with a grape vine vert and in chief two increscents argent

The submitter's original device was returned on the January 2015 East Kingdom LoD for violating the rule against "slot-machine" heraldry. As drawn, the increscents, rapier and grape vine were all primary charges, which is not permitted.

This redrawing reduces the size of the increscents, making them secondary charges. The submitter approved this redrawing.

6: Finn mac Láebáin -New Name & New Device

Per chevron purpure and vert, a chevron inverted argent

Submitter desires a masculine name.

Consulting heralds: Donovan and Alys

Finn is an Old and Middle Irish male name found in Mari ingen Briain mhic Donnchada's "Index of Names in Irish Annals" (http://medievalscotland.org/kmo/AnnalsIndex/Masculine/Finn.shtml) with relevant Annals dates of 718, 923, 944, 949, 972, 979, 1095, 1126, 1145, 1160.

mac is the Gaelic patronymic marker meaning "son."

Láebáin is the genitive form of the male given name Láebán, a pre-colon header form at p. 120 of OCM, which states that Láebán was the name of two saints.

7: Geoffrey de Tosni -New Name & New Device

Per fess vert and azure, two martlets counter-volant volant argent

Submitter desires a masculine name.
No major changes.
Sound (unspecified) most important.
Language (unspecified) most important.
Culture (unspecified) most important.
Spelling (unspecified) most important.

Consulting Herald: Matilda Wynter

Geoffrey is a male give name dated to 1417 found in "English Names found in Brass Enscriptions" by Julian Goodwyn (http://heraldry.sca.org/names/brasses/men.html)

de Tosni - Academy of St. Gabriel Report 1694 states: "The surname <de Toeni> was derived from a place in Normandy, later called <Tosni> or <Tosny>." (http://www.panix.com/~gabriel/public-bin/showfinal.cgi?1694+0). The submitter will accept the spellings de Tosni or de Tosny.

Unfortunately, all of the evidence that Blue Tyger and Diademe have found so far indicates that de Tosni or de Tosny are post-1650 spellings. Assistance is requested.

Correction to Name (2015-Jun-04 19:06:44): In e-mail with Blue Tyger on 6/4/2015, the submitter has decided to change his name to Gieffrei de Toesni to reflect the newly discovered documentation.

8: Geoffrey de Tosni -New Badge

OSCAR is unable to find the name, either registered or submitted.

Vert, a martlet volant to sinister argent

The submitter's name and device appear elsewhere on this letter.

9: Idony atte Welle -New Name Change & New Device

OSCAR NOTE: filing name should not be registered for a primary name change. It was, in in September of 2015, via the East.

Azure, on a bend argent cotised Or three leaves azure

Old Item: Ceara inghean Eirnín, to be retained as an alternate name.
Submitter desires a feminine name.
Sound (ee-do-nee) most important.

Consulting herald: Yehuda ben Moshe

Idony is an English feminine given name dated to 1274 in "Feminine Given Names in A Dictionary of English Surnames" by Talan Gwynek, sn Idonea (http://heraldry.sca.org/names/reaneyHZ.html).

atte Welle is an English byname found in "An Index to the 1332 Lay Subsidy Rolls for Lincolnshire, England" by Mari Elspeth nic Bryan (http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/mari/LincLSR/BynU.html), sn Alice atte Welle.

Submitter will allow changes to the spelling of the given name, if necessary to register the name.

10: Jibril ibn `Ammar al-Fayyad -New Alternate Name

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in October of 2009, via the East

Veritus Slacke

Submitter has no desire as to gender.
Sound (slack) most important.

Veritus Slacke is a name dated to 1565 in the Family Search Historical Records:

Veritus Slacke; Female; Christening; 28 Oct 1565; Saint Mary and All Saints, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England; Batch: I05025-9 (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NL75-88F)

Because this record is an I-Batch, supplemental documentation is required. Veritus may be a variant of the English female name Veritas, of which there are several examples in the Family Search Historical Records:

Veritas Chadwycke; Female; Christening; 04 Mar 1586; WRAWBY, LINCOLN, ENGLAND; Father's Name: Roberti Chadwycke; Batch: C03384-2 (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J37Q-RJK)
Veritas Marten; Female; Christening; 13 Oct 1594; WRAWBY, LINCOLN, ENGLAND; Batch: C03384-2 (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JQTM-82Z)
Veritas Luringteii; Female; Christening; 30 Jul 1587; Scampton, Lincoln, England; Father's Name: Guilielmi Luringteii; Batch: C00351-5 (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J3RY-8ZN)

As at least one of these examples appears to be Latinized, it is possible that a masculine Veritus could be constructed from the same root. Assistance is requested.

If Veritus cannot be documented, the submitter DOES NOT want the spelling Veritas. He would prefer the English male given name Maximillian, which is also found in the Family Search Historical Records:

Maximilian Waterhouse; Male; Christening; 24 Jun 1576; CALVERLEY, YORK, ENGLAND; Batch: P00725-1 (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JM9S-JQY)

Correction to Alternate Name (2015-May-26 17:05:13): <veritus> is the masculine nominative form of a Latin word meaning "respected, revered"

There seems to be a pattern of giving English children names based on Latin words reflecting positive qualities:

fidelis = faithful, loyal

Fidelis Hayward; Female; Christening; 05 Nov 1617; GLEMSFORD, SUFFOLK, ENGLAND; Batch: C06222-3 (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JWVJ-8NY)

donatus/donata = bestowed, granted forgiven, pardoned

Donata Clement; Female; Christening; 12 Aug 1612; SAINT CLEMENT DANES, WESTMINSTER, LONDON, ENGLAND; Batch: C04160-5 (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JMG6-XQT)

Old Item: Violet Hughes, to be retained as an alternate name.
No changes.

Purple is an English surname found in marriage records from Cranbrook, Kent, England in 1597. John Purple, marriage record dated 12 Oct 1597. Batch number M01834-4 (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NN1Y-RLW) Late period English surnames are allowed as family names per the September 2012 cover letter.

14: Steinarr Bjornson -New Name & New Device

Per pale indented sable and Or, a valknut and a raven counterchanged

Submitter desires a masculine name.
Language (Norse) most important.
Culture (Viking) most important.

Consulting herald: Conall an Doire

Steinarr is a male given name found at p. 15 of Geirr Bassi's The Old Norse Name

Bjǫrn is a male given name found at p. 8 of Geirr Bassi.

Unfortunately, the submitter has formed the patronymic incorrectly for Old Norse. The genitive form of Bjǫrn is Bjarnar-, making the patronymic form Bjarnarson, as set out on p. 18 of Geirr Bassi.

I'm sure that someone (Gunnvor or ffride, hint, hint) can document a later-period Scandinavian Bjornson. Blue Tyger will be contacting the submitter to determine his preferences as between the correct Old Norse form and the submitted form.

15: Tysha z Kieva -New Device

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in February of 2011, via the East

Per bend sinister purpure and vert, a sun in splendor argent and overall a bend chevronelly sable and argent

16: Vettorio Antonello -New Device

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in July of 2014, via the East

Or, a housecat sejant sable and a raven gules respectant within a bordure embattled per pale gules and sable

Correction to Device (2015-May-07 21:05:34): This is a resubmission of a return at Laurel from the August 2014 LoAR. The submitter's prior device, Per pale sable and bendy sinister Or and gules, a raven counterchanged, was returned for insufficient contrast. Both the field and the charge were 75% color.

This is a complete redesign.

And people ask why I'm retiring . . . :-)

vom Walde is a surname found in Bahlow, page 532, Wald(e) is the name from the dwelling place of Hans vom Walde Freiburg, 1474.

OSCAR finds the name on the East LoI of April 07, 2015 as submitted.

Vert, a wolf rampant argent between three Thor's hammers Or.

This item was pended for redrawing for incorrectly drawn Thor's hammers. The redrawn version uses the Thor's hammers from the Pic Dic. This version was approved by the submitter.
