1: Alric of Mygran Woood -Resub Name & Resub Device

Vert, two arrows in saltire points to chief, and on a chief embattled Or, an awl point to dexter proper.

Submitter desires a masculine name.
Sound (Sounding All-Rick) most important.
Culture (Anglo Saxon) most important.

Submission history:

"Alric the Indecisive" is returned for further work since it has a byname that we cannot document or translate from either attested or constructed bynames.

Specifically, the byname of "the indecisive" attempted to use the Lingua Anglia. This rule allows "the registrations of translations of attested and constructed descriptive and locative bynames into standard modern English". The submission and/or the commenters could not find documentation of "indecisive" in Old or Middle English or alternative languages. Several examples of alternative similar descriptive by-names were provided but none meaning "indecisive".

Alric - found on Saint Gabriel, as taken from Bede's "A History of the English Church and People". http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/aelfwyn/bede.html

of Myrgan Wood - locative by-name, home branch in SCA

Change of by-name to locative using Branch Name Allowance with resubmission.

Correction to Name (2017-Aug-18 13:08:45): Alric of Mygran Wood

Submission History:

The device was returned since it lacks a primary name to associate it with.

In addition, we had several concerns with the device as well to be considered with your resubmission. Specifically,

The awl is drawn as a modern scratch awl and all previously registered awls are very needle like compared to the thickly drawn one submitted. If retained in its current form, most likely the blazon would be changed to a knife removing the potential cant that you may want.

The awl is drawn with a wooden handle and a silver blade. Previous awls have been only registered with single tinctures. If you want to have this colouring, we caution that normal tools are registered with the working end of the tool especially if the awl is redrawn. If so, then there may be a lack of contrast between the awl and the golden chief. Alternatively, if drawn ½ and ½, then we may be able to argue that the charge is neutral and hence may not have a contrast issue.

Redraw/redesign has corrected the style of the awl to match the historically used one. Also has changed the tincture to sable to remove the contrast issue.
