East News:
By Anéžka Liška z Kolína, 2023-11-14 12:25:08
It's been a long time since we've had news updates here! Some brief notes about staff and policy changes over the last few years:
The current Blue Tyger Herald is Anežka Liška z Kolina, ably assisted by Drasma Pantheon, Slaine Diademe, Leofrun Pallet, Violet Mural, and Esterke Mosaic.
As both Violet and Slaine are nearing the end of their term in the Blue Tyger office, we will be posting descriptions of those positions to find their successors soon.
As of the Dec 2022 Cover Letter, black-and-white line art for armory is no longer required at Society level, but the East still requires it for our internal kingdom letters. Submitters or consulting heralds who find this to be a hardship should contact the Blue Tyger office for assistance.
As of June 2023, Laurel has provided new submissions forms to be used by all kingdoms; the previous (v3) versions of the forms will be accepted through December, but as of January 2024, all submissions must be on the new (v4) forms or be returned administratively.
As always, information about the submissions process may be found on the Blue Tyger site at bth.eastkingdom.org, and information about heraldry in the East as a whole may be found on the Brigantia site at herald.eastkingdom.org.
In service (and in the hopes of more timely future updates),
Anežka Blue Tyger

I am pleased to announce that Anéžka Liška z Kolína has joined the East Kingdom Submissions Staff as Pantheon Herald, deputy to Blue Tyger. Vivat!

The East offers heartfelt thanks to Lady Lilie Dubh inghean uí Mórdha, previously Pantheon Herald, who assumes the office of Ragged Staff Herald on the Laurel staff as of November 1, 2020. Lilie Dubh has offered many years of research, service, and insight to the East Kingdom, and we are well-pleased to see her expand her knowledge and involvement in matters of names and armory. Vivant!

To the heralds of the East Kingdom, and all to whom these presents come, greetings and all good things.
There have been many fast and furious updates in the Society in these last few weeks, and I wish to highlight the ones directly relevant to East Kingdom heraldic submissions.
Staff Updates
Marian Kirkpatrick has stepped down from her position as Mural Herald. We are saddened to see her depart, but know that she remains a strong part of the EK heraldic community through her work in voice and court heralding, and her involvement with Shepherds Crook. Vivat to Marian Kirkpatrick, for her service to the kingdom!
Violet Hughes, sometime Mosaic Herald and longtime consulting herald, has agreed to assume the role of Mural Herald. Violet Mural will convey Society-level decisions from Laurel to our East Kingdom submitters. Vivat to Violet Hughes, for her service to the kingdom!
Maryna Borowska, a consulting herald of the East, has agreed to assume the role of Mosaic Herald. Maryna Mosaic will convey kingdom-level decisions from Blue Tyger to our East Kingdom submitters. Vivat to Maryna Borowska, for her service to the kingdom!
Yours in service,
Muirenn Blue Tyger

Greetings unto the heralds of the East Kingdom and the Known World! We thank you for your commentary on our kingdom-level submissions - your help is invaluable in making sure that we send solid submissions upward to the Laurel level.
If you have not yet noticed, a new Blue Tyger website was launched before Pennsic. The URL remains the same - https://bth.eastkingdom.org/. Please note that there is an orange "Translate" button at the top, which should aid those who do not easily read English (although we all know that auto-translate is never perfect.) There are additional tips and advice for those who wish to edit their forms digitally, found on the "Before You Submit" page.
Next month we enter the season of processing Pennsic submissions. Consulting heralds should advise their submitters that items sent in from August through December may incur a bit of a delay while three months worth of Pennsic submissions are processed.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all of the volunteer heraldic artists and the industrious coloring squad at Pennsic, without whom Heralds Point would not be possible.
It is not our intention to penalize any submitter for quality of Pennsic artwork or coloring unless the emblazon has issues with recognizability or violates rule/precedent.
Yours in service,
Muirenn Blue Tyger

Greetings unto the heralds of the East Kingdom and the Known World! We thank you for your commentary on our kingdom-level submissions.
We're entering the season of processing Pennsic submissions. Please note that the scanning from Pennsic has a bit of a grey background this year, and that is to be overlooked through all Pennsic submissions.

Commenters may have noticed that we've done a lot of blazon refinement in the last two letters.
In keeping with the vision of the East Kingdom OSCAR garden being a place for heralds to learn as well as teach, I will not be correcting the original blazons from the forms when I post them into OSCAR, so long as they are accurate enough to convey the emblazon.
I invite all commenters to turn their hand toward tightening the blazons as we enter into our Pennsic submissions next month.

A submission on a recent iLoI was colored with colored pencils. Kingdom commenters raised the question of whether this is permitted.
The Administrative Handbook IV.C.1 states, "submissions colored with wax-based media such as crayons or wax pencils will be returned." However, this prohibition dates back to the days when Laurel collected paper files, and wax media had the potential to damage said files. At this time, Laurel no longer receives physical copies of the submission forms, so this is a non-issue.
The second problem with media such as crayons is potential damage to the Blue Tyger scanner. Diademe Herald rejects, and will-continue to reject, any submissions prepared in a way that may, potentially, damage the scanner. This includes crayons, paint that may flake off, charcoal, or any other media that might be transferred from the paper to the rollers or glass of the sheet-fed scanner. Such submissions will not be scanned and will be returned administratively by Diademe without being placed on an iLoI.
Any submissions that are considered safe will be scanned and processed - the details of the art media are not important except for the scanner damage issue and will not be a cause for return at the Kingdom level. This includes digitally created and printed artwork.
It is my belief that Laurel no longer rejects any submissions based on the media used, provided the electronic scan is identifiable and color fidelity is maintained.

I have realized that I've fallen behind on updating the news.
There have been more changes in the East Kingdom College of Heralds submissions staff, and I'd once again like to take this opportunity to thank several members of my staff.
Baroness Charitye Dale, previously served as Pantheon Herald and has now taken over as Mosaic Herald.
Lady Lilie Dubh, has taken over as Pantheon Herald.
Thank you for all your work, I cannot possibly do this job without you.
