The evidence supporting the rule change that removed the SFCP from non-eagles displayed (http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2020/09/20-09cl.html#6) included a goose-like bird in a rising, wings displayed posture. This was apparently considered close enough to displayed to remove the SFCP, but it's unclear whether it qualifies as displayed for the purposes of determining conflict.

English: Odd <the> moon bearded

Ǫrvar-Oddr (Old Norse: Ǫrvar-Oddr, "Arrow-Odd" or "Arrow's Point") is a legendary hero about whom an anonymous Icelander wrote a fornaldarsaga in the latter part of the 13th century (Pálsson and Edwards, 1985). It is important to note that there are multiple versions of Örvar-Oddr's Saga, each with its own variations and additions. The oldest surviving manuscript containing parts of the saga is known as AM 343a 4to and dates back to the 14th century (Thorsson, 2000)

The manuscript AM 343a 4to is located in the Arnamagnæan Institute, which is part of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. The manuscript AM 343a 4to specifically refers to a specific item within the Arnamagnæan Collection. The "AM" stands for Árni Magnússon, while "343a" indicates its unique identifier within the collection. The "4to" refers to its format as a quarto-sized manuscript. (https://onp.ku.dk/onp/onp.php?)

The byname I have chosen, "Mánaskeggr", is of the form used is Old Norse in all major manuscripts of the period. The individual words "Máni" meaning moon and "skegg" meaning beard, when used together as a byname becomes "Mánaskeggr" using Old Norse grammatic form (Cleasby & Vigfusson, 1874). Both words are common and appear in a range of period texts from the 13th Century and earlier. Refer to the links below to the icelandic-english dictionary by Cleasby & Vigfusson (1874).

Finally, these sagas were written in Iceland in the 13th and 14th century, recording the stories being passed down verbally through the generations. These stories were a large part of the contemporary cultural heritage of Scandinavians of the time who all shared the old Norse language. As a result, the use of bynames was endemic and the name Odd(r) was common and is still common to this day.

I am therefore sending this up for further discussion.

Comment from submitter after further consultation about the byname:

"I can build a strong argument for moon beard based on the practice of kennings in old norse. Snorri himself commented on the structure of kennings tailored for individuals in his translation of the Havamal and there is plenty of evidence for the practice. The catch is mainly on which old norse word for "Moon" is most applicable. The word I chose is more poetic (and includes the humour of being old (white beard) and the moon being a dreamer or storyteller). I am arguing that the keening for my persona is based on the fact that I have been with the SCA since 1994 and my beard has faded but my dreams of creative anachronism live on."
