The Welsh Kings, by Kari Mauna. Publisher - The History Press, 2006. Chapter 6 (Llywelyn ap Iorwerth c1194 - 1240) references her with this quote "The most determined cabal was that centred on Owain's widow, Cristin ferch Goronwyn Owain, and her two sons Dafydd and Rhodri". Second source is: A History of Wales by John Davies, published 2006 (original edition 1993). Chapter 4 (800 - 1282), page 113 quotes "... that the rules of Gwynedd was Dafydd, the son of Owain by his second wife (and cousin), Cristin." [DMNES] Rys is dated to 1454-57, 1497 and 1559-62 (https://dmnes.org/name/Rhys). Kingdom Name Notes -As it is unclear whether these books are using period or modernised spellings, commenters provided the following documentation: [DMNES] The Latinized Cristina in England dated to 1189, 1222, 1279-80, and 1300 (https://dmnes.org/name/Christina). Cristin is a plausible vernacular given that it becomes that form later (as shown in the DMNES forms for Early Modern English). Alternatively, Crystyn (https://dmnes.org/cite/Crystyn/1539/Barnstap...) may be used to construct Cristin using an i/y letter swap. For the authenticity request, the following spellings are dated to the requested time period: Ris (1198), Res (1200) - https://s-gabriel.org/names/constanza/ystradmarc... Reys, Reis, Res (1292-3) - https://www.s-gabriel.org/names/tangwystyl/welsh13.html Kingdom Device Notes - One commenter found no conflicts. - Some concerns were raised about the small size of the flowers. Gavriil Given name; masculine Russianization of Gabriel, found from the 14th century onwards. Listed in A Dictionary of Period Russian Names by Paul Wickenden of Thanet https://heraldry.sca.org/names/paul/g.html - no photocopy source Slotkovich A Dictionary of Period Russian Names gives <Slotko> as a masculine given name. http://heraldry.sca.org/names/paul/si.html - no photocopy source Per the 'Grammar' section of the same source, when forming patronymic bynames: "If the father's given name ended in "-a" or "-ia," the basic patronymic ending is "-in" or "-yn," respectively (with the "a" or "ia" dropping out). Otherwise, the patronymic ended in an "-ov" or "-ev." http://heraldry.sca.org/names/paul/zgrammar.html This gives the patronymic <Slotkov> from the given <Slotko>. The source gives a patronymic variation of <Slotkov> in the form of <Slotkovskii> (the patronymic <Slotkov> with the addition of the masculine possessive suffix <-skii>), dated 1611-2. Bynames ending in <-vich> are formed by adding: "an "-ich" to the basic patronymic construction... in most cases, with the exception of given names that end in "-av" (in which case, the "ov" used in construction #1 drops out to ease pronunciation)." Using this construction, the patronymic byname <Slotkov> becomes <Slotkovich>. Kingdom Device Notes - One commenter found no conflicts. |
