![]() ![]() 1: Caitríona le Fox - New Badge OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in November of 2010, via Caid. (Fieldless) A mullet of eight points argent, each point terminating in a flame azure There was question at the Kingdom level if the flames were enough to count for difference, because while previous rulings have not counted flames for difference, in this emblazon the flames are fairly large and count for roughly half the visual mass of the charge. We decided this was a question better settled by Wreath than at Kingdom. Emblazon approved by submitter Barony of Calafia Submitted by Eridana |

![]() ![]() 5: Hemneter Pennefer - New Badge OSCAR finds the name on the Caid LoI of April 30, 2023 as submitted. (Fieldless) A spider inverted Or maintaining a torteau charged with an ankh Or In internal commentary, Jeanne Marie Palimpsest pointed out - This may run into a presumption issue as a roundel is a form of heraldic display. It the spider is considered a supporter, it may be disallowed. However, this will need to be forwarded to Laurel for a decision as how we treat forms of heraldic display on fieldless badges when there are others charges on the "field" is currently in flux. Palimpsest was directed to open a Rules Letter concerning this issue on the March 2023 LoAR. That letter hasn't been released yet. There is a step from core practice for the use of a spider inverted [Séamus MacLeod of Tarbert, 05/2022, A-Ealdormere], but as this is the only SFCP in this design, that does not prevent its registration. Sable, a goutte de sang fimbriated Or winged argent Kingdom level commentary discussed whether a goutte could be fimbriated, since it is not specifically named as such, but it does appear to be a simple geometric charge (at least as simple as a heart, which is specifically named as one in the Glossary of Terms) so this should be acceptable. Gaylis is a Latvian surname found in Given names and bynames from 15-17th century Latvia by ffride wlffsdotter https://s-gabriel.org/names/ffride/latvian_bynam... meaning rooster dated to 1599 Gaylis-(?)1599 (Balodis 2008b) Lithuanian and Latvian are in the same Language group per SENA App C Submitter would prefer Ovrynka Gaylis Zelekassche if anyone can assist in documenting a double surname in Latvian. SENA App A does not currently support this pattern. Zelekassche is a Latvian surname (from ffride's bynames article above) with a Low German suffix to show affiliation withe her father or husband. Additionally, women could be recorded with bynames that end in the Low German suffix -sche. Werth (2015:54,57) says that this is a feminine suffix, that was added to a family name to indicate a woman's affiliation with her husband or father (eg. Orttyge Syrulysche, Margrete Zelekassche). ![]() ![]() 9: Rowan Barca - New Name (NP) & New Device Quarterly azure and gules, a stag's head cabossed Or Rowan is a masculine English given name found in Something Rich and Strange: "Undocumentable" Names From The IGI Parish Records by Alys Mackyntoich https://st-walburga.aspiringluddite.com/docs/RichStrange.pdf ROWAN Male Marriage 5 November 1581 Madron, Cornwall, England Batch: M001691 Concerns were raised in internal commentary about the record for Rowan listed above, since it had no surname and listed "Rowan" as having a female spouse named "Phillip". And the images linked to are all from 1682-1773. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N22T-V5Q However it's also possible to document Rowan from FamilySearch records as a late 16th century English surname, which can be used as a given name per SENA AppA. Edwarde Rowan; Male; 15 Mar 1575; Christening; Taynton, Gloucester, England; Batch C03235-2 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J7M1-7RH Barca is a French surname dated to 1287 found in Names from 13th- and 14th-Century Latin Records from Gascony by Aryanhwy merch Catmael https://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/french/earlyg.... According to the header for the article, Barca is from a Latin record, not vernacular French. However, "some of the surnames are more lightly Latinized than others". Since it's in a French context, it should still be combinable with the English given name. SENA App C allows combining English and French name elements if dated within 300 years of each other.
