Byname: Smidt for last name or Smið (submitting herald could not find the use of "eth" (ð) recorded as a late period spelling, (possibly a limitation of working from the English language and using google translate). However, if it is acceptable to use in a late period name the submitter would prefer it.
However, Smidt can be documented as a known last name used with both men and women in records from early 17th century Denmark.
