3: Emrys of Gwyntarian - New Device (KLoI)
OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in August of 1984, via the Middle.
Quarterly sable and gules, a sun throughout and a bordure Or
This device was originally submitted and returned by Kingdom in 07/2020 as 'Quarterly sable and gules, a sun throughout and a bordure Or'. It was returned for inability to identify the primary charge as a sun or star and for potential conflicts.
This device was then resubmitted in 05/2023 as 'Azure, on a lozenge quarterly sable and gules a sun, edged by a chain Or.' However, some concerns were raised about this device as well. During the kingdom submissions meeting, it was made known that the original device was still being used by the submitter. Relooking at that original device, commenters agreed that the identifiability issue could have been solved by a redraw and that no conflicts could be found for the original device either (there were a few potential conflicts but that the device cleared all potential conflicts). Commenters believed that the original submission should not have been returned at the kingdom level. The submitter, upon being contacted, let us know that they actually prefer the original device and would prefer that one to be submitted to Society instead of the resubmitted version. They approved the redraw of that original to solve the identifiability.

Jonsdottir:
The Old Norse Name; Geirr-Bassi Haraldsson; P.12; Given Names gives Jón as a masculine given name.
According to Geirr-Bassi P. 17 the correct patronymic form would be Jónsdóttir, or without the accent Jonsdottir.
Commenters at Kingdom level did not find any conflicts.
At the kingdom level, this device was submitted as 'Per pale sable and argent, two dragons combatant counterchanged and in chief three hearts gules.' which unfortunately conflicted with Malcom Patersone'device registered in March of 2010 (via Lochac): Per pale sable and argent, two dragons combatant counterchanged.
Upon consultation with the submitter, the device was changed to 'Per pale argent and sable, two dragons combatant counterchanged, a bordure Or semy of hearts sable.' A commenter did conflict check this version and did not find any conflicts.

5: Luchia del Mar - New Household Name (KLoI)
OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in June of 2018, via Meridies.
Scuola di Santa Angelica
Language/Culture (Italian) most important.
Household Names Based on Saint's Names
Saint's names are frequently used to name houses or groups of people, making them an appropriate substantive element for naming a household.
Scuola - Italian nonpersonal name designator. Found in the list of acceptable designators in SENA Appendix E. Scuola is Italian household name designator from 09/2022 Cover Letter.
Santa Angelica - Italian saint's name, constructed from the feminine Italian given name "Angelica", found in the article "Late Period Italian Women's Names: Florence" by Juliana de Luna (Julia Smith). https://medievalscotland.org/jes/Nuns/Florence.shtml
Per the article "Alys's Simple Guide to Household Names" <htto://heraldry.sca.org/names/households.html>:
"The current (October 2016) SCA heraldry rules allow you to make up saints as long as the root name of the person is real. For example, the Company of Saint Kenrics Beard is a registerable household name, even though there was not a real Saint Kenric because: (1) Kenric is a documentable period name; and (2) a beard is a documentable period heraldic charge."
Commenters at the kingdom level did not find any conflicts.

6: Yamamoto Shingen - New Name (KLoI)
(NP) & New Device (KLoI)
Argent, a mountain of three peaks and in sinister chief a decrescent sable.
Language/Culture (Sengoku period Japan) most important.
Yamamoto - Japanese family name, found in Solveig Prándardóttir's "Name Construction in Medieval Japan", dating to 1147, in the Heian era. Yamamoto 1147 - Solvieg, Historical Surnames, Ya.
Shingen - Masculine Japanese houmyou, dated to the late Sengoku era. The most notable example is that of Takeda Shingen
(1521-1573), who was a daimyo of Kai Province. His name, with this spelling, is found in "The Samurai" by Stephen Turnbull, p.20 (Osprey Publishing, 2016) <https://www.google.com/books/edition/The_Samurai/...
hl=en&gbpv=1&bsq=Takeda%20Shingen>. :
"Their leaders called themselves daimyo, which literally means 'great names', and 16th-century daimyo such as Takeda Shingen, Uesugi Kenshin and Date Masamune were to make 'great names' for themselves that eclipsed anything their heroic.
Shingen is also found 3 times in NCMJ, notably on p.404 in the table "Names of Other Important Figures", also citing Takeda Shingen. It includes a footnote denoting that it is a houmyou (Buddhist religious name), not a nanori. To the best of our abilities, we are unable to find any reason why houmyou and nanori cannot be used interchangeably. Please see comment from Magnus von Lubbeck on the KLoI for details of Houmyou and Nanori names.
Commenters on kingdom level did not find any conflicts.
No conflicts for this device were found at the kingdom level by commenters. While commenters suggested a redraw on the KLoI (please see KLoI for these comments), further discussion at the Kingdom Submissions meeting showed commenters were conflicted on whether a redraw was necessary or not with no clear majority. Ultimately, it was decided to leave this to the Society level since redraws can be done at the Society level as well.
Blazon was updated at Kingdom level to 'a decrescent' instead of 'an increscent'.
