Caid LoI dated 2023-08-16 Unto Emma Laurel, Elisabetta Pelicana, Iago Wreath, and the College of Arms does Séamus Dolphin send weary greetings, and apologies for the lateness of this missive. An unexpected amount of Life reared forth its angry head and ripped from me the time that had been planned for the completion of this. However, thanks to assistance from Eridana Ambre and Jeanne Marie Palimpsest, I have been able get this letter wrestled into some semblance of order. Please see the following list of submissions of names and armory to be considered for registration with this August body. Many thanks to all from Caid who assisted with this endeavor, whether as consulting heralds, internal commenters, or in our decision meetings, including Paul Courtesy, Gwen Recorder, Bruce Batonvert, Damien Sable Fret, Eridana Ambre, Jeanne Marie Palimpsest, Alienor De Clare, Hemneter Pennefer, and Fiachra an Doire. And big thanks to Alienor De Clare for being the lone herald to make it to our in-person meeting in July despite the long distance from home.

4: Bjorn Hafnar - New Name (NP) & New Device
Per fess azure and vert, a fess sable fimbriated Or between three drums and an antler in annulo conjoined to itself argent
Submitter desires a masculine name.
No major changes. Language/Culture (old norse) most important. Meaning (Bjorn was sca name 20+yrs ago and its who I am) most important.
Note: The submitter crossed off the original typed name on the form and handwrote Bjor as the submitted byname. He has confirmed that the desired spelling is Bjorn, however.
Also marked off the "no holding name box" when told what it meant.
Bjǫrn is an Old Norse male given name, found in GB pg. 8 from the Landnámabók with 42 examples.
Hafnar is a nickname found in GB pg22 meaning 'Haven- Harbor-'
In GB hafnar is listed as a prepended byname. However, the submission of Bryniólfr Hrafnsson Northshield July 2012 includes an comment from Gunnvor silfraharr (Orle) with an excerpt from Lind that has the byname "hafnar" after the given and not in a prepended form. Under <Hrafn>, Lind says:
Mycket brukligt på Island under hela medeltiden. Lmn äro <Rafnkell Rafns s.> Ln 90, 205, <Rafn h. heimski> Ln 103, m. fl. ock <Hrafn hafnar lykill> Ln 102, 214. Från landnamstiden är ock en <Rafn austmadr> Ln 60, 183. <Rafn Holmgardzfare> «styrimader uikueskr» på 970-t. Flb I 130 o. f., Fms II 95 o. ff. Fsv. <Ramn>, fd. <Rawn>.
[Very common in Iceland during the Middle Ages. Settlers include <Rafnkell Rafns son> (Landnámabók), <Rafn hinn heimski> (Landnámabók), et al., also <Hrafn hafnar lykill> (Landnámabók). From the time of the Icelandic settlement we have also a <Rafn austmadr> (Landnámabók). <Rafn Holmgardzfare> «styrimader uikueskr» in the 970s (Flateyjarbók, Fornmanna Sögur). Norwegian occurrences are later, and are comparatively few and far between, but this name is not infrequently found in place names. Also from the west sea islands there are a few instances: <Aarni Rafnsson> in the 1150s (Flateyjarbók), <Rafn logmadr> from Katanes ca. 1200 (Flateyjarbók), and <Rafn> † 1232 (Flateyjarbók, CFr), and others. The name was borne also by some fictitious persons. Even as a byname Old Swedish <Ramn>, Old Danish <Rawn>.
https://oscar.sca.org/index.php?...
Internal commentary during the decision meeting was inconclusive as to whether Hafnar could be used other than as a prepended byname. The submitter strongly prefers the submitted version, but is willing to accept hafnar Bjorn if necessary for registration.

Barony of Dun Or
Alienor Correction to Name (2023-Aug-17 09:08:55): This was Dolphin's error in putting the letter together. The name was changed to Lokkadottir as a result of internal commentary to match the documentation.
Internal commentary called out Vert, a swallow volant bendwise and in chief three roses Or (Ósk Grímsdóttir, Drachenwald, April 2017). However, there is a DC for the change of type of the secondary charges (awls vs. roses) and we believe there is at least a DC between a swallow volant bendwise and a heron rising, wings displayed.
