7: Thorhall the Hunter -New Name & New Device

Chapé ployé Or and gules, a wolf head sable.

Thorhall - Saga of Erik the Red, 1880 English translation, by J. Stephton, Chapter 8, Icelandic Saga Database, http://sagadb.org/eiriks_saga_rauda.en#5 - Thorhall is mentioned several times beginning with "Bjarni and Thorhall ventured on the same expedition, with their ship and the retinue which had accompanied them.", paragraph one.

the Hunter - Compact OED, compact second edition, has hunter on pg 797 dated to 1250

As for "the Hunter", in The Old Norse Name; Geirr-Bassi Haraldssøn; P.29; s.n. Bynames; I found the Norse byname <veiðimaðr> da'uded as <veiðmaðr> meaning `sportsman: hunter, fowler, fisher, etc.' This would seem to support <Bjǫrn veiðimaðr> as a plausible Old Norse masculine name, and possibly, via lingua anglica, would support <Bjǫrn the hunter as well - for all that this submission arrived badly documented.
