Northshield ILoI dated 2019-04-21

Greetings unto Baron Iohannes Glenfidanus, Polaris Herald, the Heralds of Northshield, and our brethren from other kingdoms. Herein please find the Northshield April Internal Letter. Comments are due by May 20, 2019.

1: Birna Reifsdottir -New Name

Submitter desires a feminine name.
No major changes.
Sound (given name "beer-nuh") most important.

Birna - female given name found on pg 8 of Geirr Bassi

Reifsdottir - Patronymic construction using <Reifr> as found in Viking Answer Lady (http://www.vikinganswerlady.com/ONMensNames.shtml#r)

"Reifr - From the OW.Norse adjective reifr "friendly, happy." Runic examples include the accusative case forms raif, ref. - CV p. 490 s.v. reifr; NR s.n. RæifR"

Per VAL's construction page, a male name ending in r for the genetive case changes the ending r to s and adds dottir to create the patronymic <Reifsdottir>.

At over 250:1, the O&A capitalizes the proper adjective:

Or, on a phoenix sable a Maltese cross Or and in chief three crescents gules

Michael Gerard Curtememoire at 2019-04-21 19:29:35
Is there any possibility of having the line-drawing phoenix here redone in black w/ white internal detailing--which is legal under the Admin Handbook, IV.C.1, 2nd paragraph, "black portions may be colored in"--so that the color version will have detailing?

Heledd of Mathrafal at 2019-05-09 23:53:30
I'd agree with this. When you make the colored version bigger, you can see the internal lines better, but they are rather grey as opposed to white, as well as being quite narrow, and that is making them somewhat unclear. I'd also point out that the middle line on the crescent that shows plainly in the black and white version disappears in the colored -- not that that's reason to return it, but I thought it should be noted.

Maryna Borowska at 2019-05-10 11:45:38
The line-drawing doesn't need to be redone necessarily, but the internal detailing on the colored version should definitely be white or otherwise slightly bolder.

Michael Gerard Curtememoire at 2019-05-14 16:53:16
Reversing the line drawing is the simplest way to accomplish that effect.

Gawain of Miskbridge (Green Anchor) at 2019-05-03 15:20:28
Agree with Gerard's blazon correction. No conflicts found.

Is there any possibility of having the line-drawing boars here redone in black w/ white internal detailing--which is legal under the Admin Handbook, IV.C.1, 2nd paragraph, "black portions may be colored in"--so that the color version will have detailing?

Heledd of Mathrafal at 2019-05-09 23:56:49
I'd agree with this. On the colored version the internal lines are grey, not white, and I think the above would fix this problem, if I'm understanding what is being suggested correctly.

Maryna Borowska at 2019-05-10 11:46:23
Agreed - repeating myself from the above comment, but the line-drawing is not at fault here, the colored version is.

Michael Gerard Curtememoire at 2019-05-14 16:53:46
Reversing the line drawing is the simplest way to accomplish that effect.

Allows adding/deleting a word like "de" or "the" or changing language when the change is small

Kolosvari Arpadne Julia at 2019-04-24 11:07:16
R&W s.n. Pickles has Henry, Arthur Pickles 1571. His dates for Drake are 13th century, but Karen Larsdatter's "Names from 15th Century York" (https://heraldry.sca.org/names/york15/index.htm) has Drake in the alphabetical list of bynames.

Gawain of Miskbridge (Green Anchor) at 2019-05-03 15:21:13
Docs check out, though I don't see the relevance of "Allows adding/deleting a word like `de' or `the' or changing language when the change is small".

Michael Gerard Curtememoire at 2019-05-04 17:38:23
I think they're just quoting the text next to the checkbox(es) they marked.
