Ealdormere LoI dated 2019-03-25

Unto the Sovereigns and other members of the College of Arms of the Society, come greetings from TH Lord Dietrich von Sachsen, Green Mantle Herald.

4: Shimazu Kojirou Nobuhisa - New Badge

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in May of 2017, via Ealdormere.

(Fieldless) A centipede tergiant ondoyant palewise Or.

The defining instance of a centipede in the Society was registered on the October 2018 LoAR.

Gustav Siggesson Leijonhofwud. Badge. (Fieldless) Within a centipede tergiant in annulo Or a cherry blossom gules.

This is the defining instance of a centipede in SCA heraldry. The centipede was known to period Europeans, and commenters provided depictions of centipedes from Joris Hoefnagel, dated at least to the 1560s, as well as examples from Japanese Mon. Unlike the caterpillar, registered last month, the centipede's legs issue from either side of its body; it is therefore most identifiable as tergiant.

Correction to Badge (2019-Mar-18 18:03:03): The defining instance was registered on the November 2018 LOAR.

Many and warmest thanks to those who have taken the time to comment and thus advance the art and science of heraldry in the Society.

Dietrich von Sachsen

Green Mantle Herald
