Has examples of the forms <given name> ap y <occupation> eg. *Mereddith ap y Person* (Maredudd son of the parson) and also examples of the forms <feminine given name> verch y <other name element>: Dillena verch y Toppan, Lleuqu verch y Bady
Coedwr: Welsh Surnames by Morgan & Morgan, s.n. Coedwr, Goyder "early references... Coedwr 'woodman' were found in sixteenth century papers." <John Coydowre>, dated to 1538-44; and <David Coyder> dated to 1569-61. The submitted spelling is a header form.
However, the Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru (Univ. of Wales Dictionary) cites dated earlier spellings of "coedwr" including koedwr (15th c), coetwr (14th c), coedwyr (15th-early 16th c), so "coedwr" is also a plausible spelling for the 14th and 15th centuries.
