It is my intent to register this September the following items from the Outlands College of Heralds:

This item was on the 12-2012 LoAR

1: Dieterich Löwenstern - New Name

Submitter desires a masculine name.
Culture (Northern Germanic) most important.

Submitter's previous name, Djurig von Aukring, was returned on the October 2011 LoR ( with the following:

{This name is RETURNED for lack of documentation. No documentation was submitted with this submission, and commenters were unable to find anything close to this name construction beyond the article "von". Without examples of Djurig and Aukring used as names prior to 1600, including dated spellings of the name, this must be returned.}

[Dieterich] - `German Names from Nurnberg, 1497', Sara L. Uckelman (

No documentation was provided for [Löwenstern], however, commenters found as follows:

Gawain of Miskbridge (Green Anchor) at 2012-08-23 21:03:16

As unlikely a name as "Lionstar" is, Rohese found support: "Matthäus Appelles von Löwenstern (Hymn-Writer) Born: April 20, 1594 - Neustadt, Silesia, Germany Died: April 11, 1648 - Breslau, Germany Matthæus Appeles (Apelles) von Löwenstern was born in Neustadt, Silesia, where his father was a saddlemaker. The son became famous as a talented musician. In 1625 he was appointed music director and treasurer at Bernstadt by Duke Heinrich Wenzel of Münsterberg. The following year he received the appointment of director of the princely school at Bernstadt. In 1631 he was made Rath and Secretary and also Director of Finance. (royal councillor and chamberlain). Löwenstern then served as Rath for the Emperors Ferdinand II and Ferdinand III. The latter ennobled him. His last office was Staatsrath (secretary of state) at Öls to Duke Carl Friedrich of Münsterberg. Löwenstern's thirty hymns were written in imitation of antique verse forms and on the mottoes of the princes under whom he had served. Several of his hymns have been translated into English and other languages. -- "

2: Keina MacRath - New Name

Sound most important.

[Keina] - `Feminine Given Names in A Dictionary of English Surnames', Brian M. Scott (

[MacRath] - `Academy of Saint Gabriel Report 488' (; Gimble, Ian, Scottish Clans & Tartans, pg. 206

As further support for the surname:

Aryanhwy merch Catmael at 2012-08-09 03:21:11

From the 02/2011 LoAR:

Colin MacRath. Name and device. Or, a bend between two crosses formy sable.

Eastern Crown was able to date the spelling Macrath to the 15th century or earlier (in Chartularies of St. Mary's Abbey, Dublin: with the Register of its house at Dunbrody, and Annals of Ireland, Volume 1, p. 236).

Marie de Blois (Palimpsest) at 2012-08-24 21:02:13

It's probably important to note specifically that they are part of the same Regional Naming Group (English/Welsh) listed in Appendix C of SENA and that they are within 500 years of each other. If they were in two different (compatible) RNGs, we'd need to make sure they were within 300 years.

3: Sander von Zeitz - New Name

Submitter desires a masculine name.
Sound most important.

[Sander] - Dictionary of German Names, Hans Bahlow, translated by Edda Gentry (2002 edition), lists Sander in use as a first name in Liegnitz in 1383

[Zeitz] - Feudal Germany: Volume I, James Westfall Thompson, page 206, lists the Bishop Eppo of Zeitz as adhering to Henry IV (Holy Roman Emperor 1084-1105)

for additional support...

Alys Mackyntoich (Eastern Crown) at 2012-08-08 17:33:32

Zeitz appears as an unmarked surname in the IGI Parish Records (Germany extracts):

Hermannus Zeitz Male Christening 21 Jan 1618 Oppenheim, Rheinhessen, Hessen Batch: C393190

Apollonia Zeitz Female Christening 09 May 1616 Oppenheim, Rheinhessen, Hessen Batch: C393190

Since we know that Zeitz is a place (, the unmarked versions should give the submitter the benefit of the doubt for the marked <von Zeitz>.

Sander Hilttebrandt Male Christening 21 Jan 1583 Evangelisch, Sersheim, Neckarkreis, Wuerttemberg Batch: C932561

Sander Eslinbrot Male Marriage 15 Jan 1565 Evangelisch, Boennigheim, Neckarkreis, Wuerttemberg Batch: M954303

(and many more)

A couple of commenters noted the raised foot, which potentially change the posture from statant (the default) to passant, which must be blazoned. We will leave that call to Laurel.
