Greetings unto THL Kreimhilt von Ebersberg, Dragon Herald, Meister Konrad Mailander, Rouge Scarpe Herald, Incunabula Herald and Tigernach mac Eoghain ua Aeda, Opinicus Herald; from Thegn Edward Aelredson, Targe Herald.

Below please find submissions for the May 2012 Special ILoI.

These items are from "Lost Sheep" discovered during the recent Escutcheon (Middle Kingdom Internal Submissions) office changeover. They are being placed on this special ILoI so as not to burden the new Escutcheon with a deluge of old items.

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in September of 2011, via the Middle

Quarterly purpure and argent, Edelweiss proper argent seeded Or

4: Augustine Wormwood -Resub Device

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in June of 2011, via Calontir

Per pale sable and Or, on a chief gules a comet bendwise inverted Or

Device returned June 2011

Augustine Wormwood. Device. Per fess gules and per pale sable and Or, in chief a comet bendwise inverted Or.

This device is returned for conflict with the badge of Elena Glamorgan, Gules, a comet bendwise inverted Or. There is a CD for the changes to the field, but the move of the comet is forced: it cannot be in the center of the design due to the Or quarter in sinister base.

The device is clear of the device of Esmirelda Dancingstar, Purpure, a shooting star bendwise sinister Or. There is a CD for the changes to the field and a CD for the change of orientation of the comet.

The device is also not in conflict with the badges of Nicolaa de Bracton of Leicester, (Fieldless) A comet fesswise gules bearded Or, and Temair MacDiarmada, (Fieldless) A comet bendwise sable bearded Or. In each case, there is a CD for comparing fieldless and fielded armory, and a second CD for the change of orientation of the comet.

<Mercier>

Academy of Saint Gabriel Report 710

http://www.s-gabriel.org/710

Article on <Jean le Mercier>, from Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Le_Mercier

Targe finds that this clients name and a similar device were both submitted and returned in February 1994

Caroline de Mercier. Name and device. Azure, on a compass star chief point flory Or a lozenge azure, a bordure Or.

Caroline is a post period name. We need evidence of its use in period before we may register it. Additionally, de Mercier appears to be an error in Bardsley; documented forms are Mercier, le Mercier, and du Mercier.

The primary charge is halfway between a compass star and a compass rose. As a consequence, its identifiability is problematical. The device also has a conflict with the Shire of Western Keep (SCA, registered 1/94), Azure, on a sun within a laurel wreath Or a tower azure. There is one CD for the difference in type of the peripheral charge, but nothing for the change to type only of the tertiary per X.4.j.ii.

6: Diccon de Reinport -New Badge

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in January of 2009, via the Middle

(Fieldless) On a goat rampant sable a broadarrow inverted Or

7: Elina of Beckenham -Resub Device

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in August of 1991, via Trimaris

Gules a griffon segreant Or, on a dexter claw a raven rising sable in sinister claw a rose slipped and barbed Or

Clients submission was returned September 2000 via the West.

Elina of Beckenham. Device. Gules, a griffin segreant queue-forché Or, perched on its dexter claw a raven displayed sable, maintaining in sinister claw a rose Or slipped and leaved vert.

While the submitter has permission to conflict with Hugh the Undecided, Gules, two griffins segreant addorsed Or, Kiera Loch Beldragon, Gules, a griffin segreant maintaining a harp Or, a chief urdy erminois, Morgan ap Siarl, Gules, a griffin segreant ermine maintaining in its dexter foreclaw a cross of four lozenges Or, and the badge for Nerissa Meraud de la Fontaine, Gules, a griffin passant to sinister bearing in its sinister talon a goblet Or, the device is still in conflict with Degary Golafre of Pembroke, reblazoned in July 2000, Quarterly sable and gules, a griffin segreant coward maintaining in its dexter talon a Celtic cross and in its sinister talon a sword inverted Or and Gavin Flandre, Gules, a griffin segreant checky argent and azure. Against Degary, there is only a single CD for the change to the field. Against Gavin, there is only a single CD for the change to the tincture of the griffin. In addition, it may conflict with registered armory that uses a hippogriff as the primary charge.

Client includes Permission to Conflict letters from several individuals, now including Degary Golafre of Pembroke and Gavin Flandre.

8: Ginevra Boscoli -New Badge

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in November of 2009, via the Middle

Clients name and device were returned at Laurel in January 2011

Gunnar Alfljotr. Name and device. Per saltire sable and azure, a saltire and in chief a mullet of eight points voided and interlaced argent.

This submission has two elements, both documented as Old Norse given names. As there is no evidence for two given names in Old Norse, nor for unmarked patronymic bynames in Old Norse, this name cannot be registered as submitted. We would change the second name to a patronymic byname as Alfjotson, but this is a major change, which the submitter does not allow.

Additionally, the documentation supports the spelling Gunnarr, rather than the submitted form.

This device is returned for violating section VIII.3 of the Rules for Submissions, which says "voiding and fimbriation may only be used with simple geometric charges placed in the center of the design." The mullet of eight points is a secondary charge which, by definition, is not placed in the center of the design.

OSCAR is unable to find the name, either registered or submitted.

Raffaele da Cernia

Per bend sinister azure and sable, a bend sinister argent between a weasel rampant contourney and a wolf rampant contourney Or

Submitter desires a masculine name.
Language (Italian) most important.
Culture (Italian) most important.

Clients name was registered December 2003 (via the Middle) as <Raphael da Cernia>. On the original submission client requested authenticty for Italian and allowed minor changes. The submitted spelling of the given name <Raphael> turns out to have been an English spelling. Changing the given name from English to Italian turned out to be a major change, which was not allowed. Client received no notification of the details of the registration. In working on his device submission this was discovered. Client requests that the given name be changed to one of the suggested authentic spellings, <Raffaele>, as listed in Names from Arezzo, Italy, 1386-1528, by Aryanhwy merch Catmael (Sara L Uckelman) http://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/arezzo.html

Clients original submission was returned February 2008

Raphael da Cernia. Device. Per bend sinister azure and sable, a bend sinister argent between a "weasel" rampant contourny and a wolf rampant contourny Or.

This device is returned for redraw. Commenters were unable to identify the weasel: the majority saw it as a feline of some type. As we give a substantial (X.2) difference between weasels and cats, each must be clearly drawn.
