Æthelmearc LoI dated 2017-05-16
Unto the Sovereigns and members of the College of Arms, greetings. This is Æ192. It is the intent of the College of Heralds of Æthelmearc to register the following items:
1: Ceara Cháomhanach - New Device
OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in March of 2007, via Æthelmearc.
Purpure, a triquetra Or between three natural tiger heads cabossed argent marked sable
Herald of Record: Arias Beltran del Valle (firstname.lastname@example.org)
The lighter horizontal marks on the form are caused by the folds in the paper, which did not flatten properly during scanning.
2: Eydís Vígdísardottír - New Alternate Name Change & New Device
OSCAR thinks the name is registered as Eydís Vígdísardóttir in April of 2016, via Æthelmearc.
Azure, a martlet displayed argent, a chief embowed argent estencely azure.
Old Item: Eydís Vígdísardottír, to be retained as an alternate name.
Herald of Record: Aindreas MacGhille (email@example.com)
Serena: Found in Italian Renaissance Women's Names by Rhian Lyth of Blackmoor Vale (http://heraldry.sca.org/names/italian.html)
Milani: Consiliorum sive responsorum juris by Antonius Cioffi (Google's version, spelled Antonij Ciofi on the page) from 1583, has one "Matthæü quondam Aloysij cognomento <Milani>", 'Matthew formerly Aloysius nicknamed/known as Milani' and further down the same page repeatedly just "Matthȩo/Matthȩum <Milani>". The images are screen-grabs. Full page scans are in the packet.
Herald of Record: Aindreas MacGuille (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Previous device (Argent, a martlet displayed, a chief enarched ermine) was returned at kingdom for conflict with:
Francesca of Bright Angel (device registered January 1973: Azure, a dove displayed, head elevated argent. 1 DC for adding a chief. There is no DC for type as a dove and martel are both regular shaped birds.
Adding a tertiary charge group to the chief clears both conflicts.
Use of a non eagle displayed is a step from period practice.
Correction to Device (2017-May-16 20:05:51): The azure on the device has been adjusted to actually appear azure, and the chief has been raised based on commentary at Kingdom. Client has approved the new artwork.
3: Valgerðr inn rosti - Resub Device
OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in December of 2015, via Æthelmearc.
Argent, three sheep passant to sinister sable, each charged with an elder futhark F rune argent, a bordure gules.
Herald of Record: Cormacc Mac Gilla Brigde (EndlessHills@aeheralds.net)
The previous submission (sable, a chevron gules fimbriated between a sword fesswise and a bear salient argent) was returned by Laurel on the 2016-04-16 LoAR:
This device is returned for violating SENA A3D2c, Unity of Posture and Orientation, which states "The charges within a charge group should be in either identical postures/orientations or an arrangement that includes posture/orientation". Because they lie on either side of the chevron, the sword and bear are considered to be in the same secondary charge group. However, the charges here are not in a unified arrangement, as the fesswise orientation of the sword must be described independently from the default orientation of the bear.
This is a complete redesign.
Correction to Device (2017-May-16 20:05:01): The client submitted revised forms with enlarged runes prior to this letter going external, based on kingdom commentary. As the client is the artist, client approved the new artwork. The revised forms replaced the old forms in the packet.
