Gyronny arrondi Or, azure,Or, sable, Or, azure, Or, sable. The original submission was returned at Laurel level 12/15. The submitter has included documentation to support a gyronny of three colors. A summary appears here, and the full file is attached. Stemmario Trivulziano A Cura Di Carlo Maspoli Niccolo Orsini De Marzo Blazonature p 474 listed for de Parono, Line drawing indicated on p290 (h). "Grembiato di rosso, d'argento e d'azzuro. I color sono indicati dalle iniziali." Translates as "Gyronny of red, silver, and blue. The colors are indicated by the initials: B-azire, R-rules, x-argent". This codex dates back to the early years of the condottiere Francesco Sforze as Duke of Milan (1450-66). From the book "A Treatise on Heraldry, British and Foreign" from 1896, page 95. "Gyronny is sometimes composed of more than two tinctures, this a branch of the Milanese family of ORIGO bears: Gyronny, sable, argent, vert, sable, argent, vert, sable, argent, vert." Page 97 - A very curious German partition is that of Tierced in gyron gyronnant; in it the whole field is occupied by three spiral gyrons; VON MEGENTZER bears this gules, sable and argent (Plated XVIII, fig 16.)" Johan Siebmacher's Wappenbuch from 1605. Von Megentzer The submitter also cites the LoAR submission for Tryggr Tyrsson (April 2013) http://antirheralds.org/oscar/index.php?action=100&loi=193 Commentary there discussed two other examples shields showing gyronny of more than three colors, The Magister Militum per Thracias, Constantini Dafnenses and the Magister Peditum, Tertia Herculea. In Commentary from Thomas de Groet: I'm not fully up on the IAP rules, but the citations as well as the LoAR precedent do seem to support the use of gyronny in more than two tinctures both in period and in SCA heraldry. |
