2: Josias Stylites -New Name (NP) & New Device

Per fess embowed to base indented Or and vert, a dragonfly azure

Submitter desires a masculine name.
Sound most important.
Language/Culture (12th Cen Byzantine) most important.
Spelling (Would prefer) most important.

"Josias" recorded as a variant spelling for an Archbishop of Tyre "Joscius" "Josce" "Josias" - from 1172-1202. From: Runciman, Steven. A History of the Crusades. Vol. 3, Cambridge University Press, 1954. > Relevant page (4) added as supplemental image. Also listed in text description of manuscript images from the "Walters Ms. W.142, William of Tyre, Estoire d'Eracles" collection, here: https://oscar.sca.org/s.php?u=8642 [ www.thedigitalwalters.org ]

"Stylite" found in/cited from Hendy, Michael F. (1985) Studies in the Byzantine Monetary Economy c300-1450 Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, ISBN 0-521-24715-2 (page 174). Meaning is important: Stylite meaning a pillar saint or pillar hermit, submitter being very tall and slim (6'7"), making the name a visual pun of a sort. Appended "s" attested to where part of the title of the saint, "the" (Simeon the Stylite / Simeon Stylites), is dropped. See: https://www.britannica.com/biography/Saint-Simeon-Stylites

https://www.jstor.org/stable/592644

Have not found how various Stylite saints were referred to during their time, with or without the "s".

3: Kiyad-un Qara Nachin -New Name (NP)

Submitter desires a masculine name.
The following changes are allowed: You may change kiyad-un to Borjigid-un if needed
Language/Culture (I care most about 'Kiyad-un" as the clan name I wish for my name) most important.

Kiyad-un Qara Nacin is a Mongolian name combining a tribal byname, a descriptive byname, and a given name.

The Kiyad tribe, the epithet Qara (found in primary sources), and the

personal name Nachin are found in Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy, "Mongolian

Naming Practices" (https://heraldry.sca.org/names/mongolian_names_marta.html).

The byname construction for tribal and descriptive names and the alternative transliteration Nacin for the personal name follow the procedure in Ursula Georges, "Middle Mongol Grammar for SCA Names" (https://heraldry.sca.org/names/mongolgrammar.html).

Additional Mongolian Name/Grammar Sources:
