1: Aarnimetsä, Barony of -Resub Badge

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in August of 1996, via Drachenwald.

(Fieldless) Five bees conjoined in annulo heads to center Or.

This submission is to be associated with Kultaisen mehiläisen ritarikunta

Prior badge submission, (Fieldless) A chevron couped raguly on the upper edge argent was returned in LoAR 12-2005 (http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2005/12/05-12lar.html) due to a conflict:

This is returned for conflict with Aelesia Emelyne Couchur, Azure, a chevron embattled argent. There is no heraldic difference between embattled and raguly, and a chevron embattled is embattled on the upper edge only. Thus there is no difference granted between these two chevrons. Per precedent, "There is no difference between [an ordinary] and [the same ordinary] couped on fieldless armory. (LoAR 6/90 Symposium p.3)." That leaves only a single CD for fieldlessness.

This is a complete redesign.

3: Arianna Weidseckerin -Resub Device

OSCAR finds the name on the Drachenwald LoI of August 31, 2017 as submitted.

Per bend sinister argent and purpure, three ears of wheat bendwise sinister embowed argent.

Previous device submission Per bend sinister argent and purpure, an ear of wheat bendwise sinister embowed argent (LoI 2017-09-30 https://oscar.sca.org/index.php?action=145&id=80111) was returned in LoAR 12-2017 (http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2017/12/17-12lar.html#144) due to a conflict, with recognizability issues:

This device is returned for conflict with the device of Alice of Kent, Vert, a sprig of elder bendwise sinister argent, with one DC for change of field, but none for the forced move to sinister base. Submitted as an ear of wheat, commenters had difficulty recognizing the charge, with several commenters noting its similarity to a branch of laurel or a fern, due in no small part to the lack of lemma, or hairy filaments that issue from each seed in typical depictions of wheat.

This is a redesign with a redraw of the charge. The submitter wishes to depict spelt wheat (Triticum spelta) that has short tufts (#1 #2).

The above submission has images. To view them, see the URLs below:

10: Margareta Blacke -Resub Badge

OSCAR finds the name on the Drachenwald LoI of December 31, 2017 as submitted.

(Fieldless) A rose Or and a rose argent conjoined at the stem, slipped and leaved vert, barbed and seeded proper.

Previous badge submission Badge for Blackes houshold. (Fieldless) A rose Or and a rose argent conjoined at the stem, slipped and leaved vert, barbed and seeded proper was returned in LoAR 04-2018 (http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2018/04/18-04lar.html#159):

This badge must be returned for presumption.

The household name Blackes houshold is jointly owned by Margareta Blacke and Maryan Blacke of York. SENA A6E states that "the Lancaster and York rose badges are very widely associated with those families in many forms. Therefore, we do not allow anyone to register the byname (of) Lancaster with armory including a red rose, or the byname (of) York with armory including a white rose. Again, the name will normally be registered but the armory returned." Maryan Blacke of York is considered the secondary owner, not the primary, but that still makes her an owner, and the combination of the byname of York with a white rose is not allowed.

Margareta Blacke has an alternate persona name, Margareta Blacke of York, which may or may not cause a presumption claim under this rule, as the badge is associated with a household name owned by the primary name, not her alternate name. Neither the Admin Handbook nor SENA explicitly address the possibility, and we decline to rule on the issue at this time.

The submitter releases the alternate name Margareta Blacke of York in this letter and the badge is submitted by her alone without an association. The design of the badge is the same but this is a redraw.

<da Riva>, locative, 'from the shore, bank'. There are several Italian places of this name.

Name is constructed following the pattern in SENA, Appendix A, for Italian names: [given+pat+locative], or [given+family+locative], depending on interpretation of Graffaro.

This device is returned for conflict with the device of Medwe Janos, Vert fretty Or, a quatrefoil argent. Fretwork is a charge group, not a field treatment; and it is the primary charge group, while the bend/coronet is an overall charge. There is just one DC, for type of overall charge.

The submitter is a court baroness, and is entitled to display a coronet. This crancelin-style display of a pearled coronet is not restricted to a particular rank, so anyone entitled to display a coronet may use it.

Meaning (Byname meaning) most important.

Trygge is a given name found in Lind:

Trygge j Hoadal, Norway, 1342

Trygge Biørnsson, Norway, 1494

We would greatly appreciate any help in documenting a compatible byname meaning "the green": "inn græni" as 'the green' in the period manner of "inn rauði" (the red) and "inn svarti" (the black) or perhaps græn-eygr/-eygðr for "green-eyed" in the manner of blá-eygr/-eygðr "blue-eyed".

Correction to Device (2018-Jun-11 03:06:59): Aww, the device looks a bit hungry. All charges could be bigger, but are they so small it might be cause for a return?

Yours in Service,
Baroness Mór inghean Bhriain, Edelweiss Herald
