Cyprian

- Cyprian Horsf[all] - 1601 "Appendix VI: Faints of Reign of Queen Elizabeth". the 18th report if the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records in Ireland. (Dublin: Alex. Thom. & Company, 1886) pp. 22-150 [http://books.google.com/books?id=NSwNAAAAYAAJ,] Pages 103-106

-Cyprian Horsfall - 1602 "Appendix VI: Faints of Reign of Queen Elizabeth". the 18th report if the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records in Ireland. (Dublin: Alex. Thom. & Company, 1886) pp. 22-150 [http://books.google.com/books?id=NSwNAAAAYAAJ,] Pages 55-58

an Doire - https://medievalscotland.org/kmo/AnnalsIndex/DescriptiveBynames/anDoire.shtml - Meaning:

"[of] the Oak-grove/Oak-wood"

Spellings:

What we know as a set of Irish Annals are manuscripts that were each compiled during a particular time period, usually using older material as sources. For example, when the Annals of the Four Masters were written from 1632 to 1636, they covered events that occurred centuries and millenia before (including legendary history). So, when an entry in this set of annals refers to a person who lived in the year 738, the spelling used for that person's name is very likely not using the spelling that would have been used in 738.

Standard forms of this name (based on spelling systems of different periods) would be:

Early Modern Irish Gaelic (c1200-c1700) genitive form: an Doire

Anglicised Irish and Irish Gaelic can be combined as per SENA Appendix C, and the elements are clearly within 300 years of each other.

Comment made that the term is actually "volant en arrière".

3: Katheline van Weye - New Badge

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in June of 2001, via Atenveldt.

Or, a boot purpure and on a chief vert a dexter gauntlet fesswise Or.

4: Phlorianos Kavallarios - New Device Change

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in July of 2008, via Gleann Abhann.

Purpure, on a cross nowy argent voided a mullet of sixteen points Or

Old Item: Purpure, a two-headed wolf sejant affronty heads guardant argent and a bordure argent golpy., to be retained as a badge.

Armorial Herald: Michael Langley

Commentor believes this is actually a cross nowy argent voided rather than a cross nowy purpure fimbriated. A cross fimbriated would not be the same color as the field.

SENA: A.3. Armory Style C. Voiding and Fimbriation: Voiding and fimbriation are terms that describe the situation in which the interior of the charge is a different color than a strip around the outside of the charge. The term voiding is used for the case in which the interior part of the charge is the same color as the field. The term fimbriation is used for the case in which the interior part of the charge is of a different color than the field.

No conflict found.
