"The previous name, Order of the Flower of Chivalry, was returned Oct 90 for infringing on the SCA Order of Chivalry. The resubmission is equally an infringement. Though both names are technically clear by the addition of a substantive phrase (List of, Flower of), the overwhelming appearance is of a collection of members of the Chivalry. It's worth noting that the submission forms give the intended Order name as List of Chivalry -- no "Order of" -- which appears to be closer to the Barony's intent and which is definitely a conflict.

This must again be returned. We recommend to the Barony that any further resubmissions avoid any use of the term Chivalry."

7: Giovanni Ratto -Resub Device

OSCAR finds the name on the Artemisia LoI of June 27, 2017 as submitted.

Per chevron sable and vert, a rat rampant ermine maintaining a drum Or and in chief, two rapiers argent

The returned item can be found here:

https://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2017/09/17-09lar.html

"This device is returned for violation of SENA A3E2. There are four types of charge (rapier, rat, drum, drumstick), and five tinctures (argent, Or, vert, sable, ermine) for a complexity count of 9. SENA allows for a complexity count of 8 before an individually attested pattern is required.

This device is also returned for violation of SENA A3D2c, which requires that charges in the same charge group be in a unified orientation and arrangement. The rapiers are blazoned in an arrangement (in chevron) separately from the rat, which is a co-primary charge.

This device is also returned for the size and orientation of the drumstick. The stick is very small, almost invisible, and as depicted it blurs the line between palewise and bendwise."

The original returned item is below to better show the changes they have made.

8: Giovanni Ratto -Resub Badge

OSCAR finds the name on the Artemisia LoI of June 27, 2017 as submitted.

Fieldless a rat rampant ermine maintaining a drum Or

The returned item can be found here:

"This badge is returned for violation of SENA A2C2, which requires that 'Elements must be drawn to be identifiable. While some allowance will be made for lack of artistic skill, the identity of elements must not be ambiguous. Ambiguity can be created when a depiction falls between two states that contribute to difference, such as tincture, posture, or type of charge.' In this submission, the drumstick is halfway between palewise and bendwise. As maintained charges count for difference, this must be returned."

The original returned item is below to better show the changes they have made.

9: Kamei Kojirou Yoshi'naga -Resub Device

OSCAR is unable to find the name, either registered or submitted.

Azure, in pale a natural sea-tortoise sejant Or atop a cloud argent

The returned item can be found here:

https://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2017/12/17-12lar.html

"This device is returned for lack of documentation on the posture. The submitted blazon uses "naiant," a posture that is applied exclusively to fish and fish-like creatures (when swimming horizontally) and waterfowl (when close with the feet hidden (i.e. underwater), "swimming" on top of the water). Naiant has not previously been applied to quadrupeds, and no documentation was provided making the case for it.

However, no other known posture can accurately be used to describe this posture. The rear flippers are splayed back, rather than oriented towards the "ground," an orientation we only see in quadrupeds when courant, while the foreflippers push straight down. This arrangement of limbs doesn't match any known heraldic posture and must therefore be returned."

The original returned item is below to better show the changes they have made.

The returned item can be found here:

https://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2017/11/17-11lar.html

"This device is returned for lack of documentation of the charge. The wings used in this depiction are seen exclusively on depictions of cranes in Asian heraldry. The use of Asian animals in core style heraldry is already a step from period practice, and the use of these animal-specific Asian-style wings on an otherwise undocumented tortoise torso and head is grounds for return. Absent an individually attested pattern, use of Asian crane wings on any charge other than a crane is disallowed in Society heraldry."

The original returned item is below to better show the changes they have made.
