6: Bella Rose -Resub Device

OSCAR finds the name on the Atlantia LoI of December 27, 2016 as submitted.

Azure, a mermaid proper, on a chief invected argent a rose proper

Submission History: This is a resubmission after the March 2017 Laurel return of "Azure, a mermaid in her vanity proper crined and maintaining a mirror and comb Or, on a chief invected argent a compass star sable":

This device must be returned for violating SENA A.3.E.2, which limits heraldry to a complexity count of eight. This armory has five charges (mermaid, mirror, comb, chief, mullet) and five tinctures (argent, sable, Or, azure, vert), giving it a complexity count of 10.

It must also be returned for lack of recognizability of the comb, a maintained charge which due to its size and interaction with the mermaid's hair is almost completely lost. More generally, the mirror and comb of this depiction of a mermaid do not meet our current requirements for maintained charges. This is a difficult ruling, as the depiction is from A.C. Fox-Davies, which we recognize is a standard source for heraldic depictions amongst the populace. Nevertheless, it does not work for our purposes, and should be discontinued.

There is a step from period practice for use of a compass star.

Maison de + heraldic charge + heraldic tincture is listed as French Inn Sign Name pattern.

Submission History: This is a resubmission after the August 2017 return of the household name "Chez Poulet Flambe":

The household name is being returned for insufficient

documentation. While the designator "Chez" has been registered before, past registration--especially from so long ago--is not by itself sufficient documentation to justify a new registration. Commenters were unable to find supporting documentation for the word "chez" dating earlier than 1818, well outside our period. Additionally, while much of the language of blazon is based on a form of French, merely translating a phrase into modern French is not

sufficient documentation that the proposed naming pattern would have been used in France in period.

Per pall inverted ermine, counter-ermine and azure, two wolves combatant ululant counterchanged sable and argent and a foi Or

This is a resubmission after the September 2017 Kingdom return of "Per pall inverted ermine, counter-ermine and azure, two wolves combatant ululant counterchanged sable and argent and a foi Or":

This device is returned for redraw, for violating SENA A2C2 which states "Elements must be drawn to be identifiable." Commenters has trouble identifying the wolves against the ermine spots. While the wolves are no longer overlapping the ermine spots as they were before, the individual spots are not noticably smaller, and as drawn carry so much visual weight as to distract from the primary wolves. Making the ermine-spots smaller, or even eliminating them, would help immensely.
