Ealdormere LoI dated 2017-01-29

Unto Andrewe Laurel, Alys Pellycan, Brunissende Wreath, and the rest of the College of Arms Rylyn Buchanan, Green Mantle Herald, send greetings.

It is the intent of the College of Heralds of the Kingdom of Ealdormere that the following submissions be registered..

This item was on the 04-2017 LoAR

1: Asgertha Ryland of Buchanan - Resub Badge

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in December of 1990, via the Middle.

(Fieldless) in fess a monkey rampant sable collared and chained argent and a sea catamount sable tailed vert maintaining in its paw the monkey's chain

This badge was returned on the March 2016 LoAR for the following reasons..

The previous submission can be seen at:

https://oscar.sca.org/index.php?action=145&id=60248

This badge is returned for multiple reasons. Blazoned as a sea catamount, the upright charge was generally identified as a sea-bear and we are returning this submission so the submitter can have, after redraw, the charge she desires.

Additionally, no evidence was provided for the admixture of postures for animate charges in this arrangement. On resubmission, the submitter should provide documentation to support this arrangement, specifically addressing the unity of posture and orientation issues with this design as the September 2012 Cover Letter states:

For purposes of the unity of posture clause of A3D2c, sea-creatures and other similar monsters must be in as similar a posture as possible to any quadrupeds in the same group. Sea-creatures and other monsters not formed from quadrupeds will be decided on a case by case basis. So for example, a lion-dragon passant and a horse passant has no unity of posture problem since both are passant, whereas a sea-horse and a lion statant does have a unity of posture problem, as a sea-horse's default posture is erect, which is not identical to statant.

We believe that this redraw addresses these issues.

2: Fáelán Ruadh ua Aodha - Resub Badge

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in December of 2015, via Ealdormere.

(Fieldless) on a wolf's head countourney erased gules, a compass starr argent.

The original design was returned at Kingdom for not being blazonable. This is a more period design.

The use of a compass star is an SFPP, but the only one on this device.

3: Ragnheithr Thorbjarnardóttir - Resub Augmentation of Arms

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in October of 1990, via the Middle.

Argent, upon a sledgehammer inverted bendwise sinister sable a rose argent charged with a wolf's head cabossed sable within an orle purpure

Client received her augmentation on 9/25/1999 as per the Ealdormere Order of Precedence: http://wolfium.com/search.php?iduser=1083

Client's current device, Argent, a sledgehammer inverted bendwise sinister sable within an orle purpure, was registered in October, 1990 via the Middle Kingdom.

The original design would have required two changed to the device, one to change the orle to a bordure and the second for the augmentation, as such it was returned at Kingdom. This design removes the requirement to change the orle.

Correction to Augmentation of Arms (2017-Feb-11 22:02:48): You are correct, this is not a resubmit to Laurel only at the Kingdom level and we should be charged for it

As always, we thank those who have commented on our Internal letter and this external letter.

Rylyn Green Mantle

OSCAR counts 2 Resub Badges and 1 Resub Augmentation of Arms. These 3 items are not chargeable. There are a total of 3 items submitted on this letter.
