Unto Andrewe, Laurel Principal, Alys Pelican, Brunissende, Wreath, and all the College of Arms does Carlos, Pennon of the Glorious Kingdom of Meridies, on behalf of Mistress Flannait inghean uí hEighnigh, Beacon, and the Illustrious Meridian College of Heralds, send most humble and respectful greetings.

Please note all arms were given a conflict check at decision meeting.

1: Bram sleggja Halfdanarson - New Device

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in July of 2012, via Meridies.

*****an artist noted was suggested to draw the chevron slightly smaller to give room for the two stag heads

2: Iain Macpherson of An Dun Theine - New Name Change From Holding Name

OSCAR NOTE: the old name was registered in April of 2016, via Meridies.

Old Item: Iain of An Dun Theine, to be released.
Submitter desires a masculine name.

Iain - Given name, found in "The Oxford Dictionary of English Christian Names" by Withycombe, 3rd. ed., p.178, s.n. John, "Gaelic Ian for John". Submitter prefers the spelling "Iain".

Macpherson - Surname, found in "Surnames of Scotland" by Black, p.557, s.n. MACPHERSON. "Another Donald Macpherson, evidently of the same family, was rector of St. Columbus Glassrie, 1420, 'showing the name was not a mere patronymic'."

of An Dun Theine - Locative name. An Dun Theine is a shire in the Kingdom of Meridies.

Previous submission, Iain Macpherson of Cluny, was returned by Laurel in April 2016.

This name is returned under PN4B3 of SENA, which states, "Names may not contain both a family name used by an important noble family and the area from which that family derives their title or the seat of the family. Such a combination is considered a claim to rank. Generally this name pattern is limited to Scottish clan chiefs and to barons, counts, and other members of the high nobility." The hereditary seat of the MacPhersons is Cluny Castle (or Cluny House), with the current clan chief styled as "27th hereditary chief of the Clan Macpherson of Cluny" (http://www.clan-macpherson.org/chief.html).

We would drop the locative byname of Cluny to remove the appearance of presumption, but the resulting name would conflict with the registered name Ian MacPherson. Therefore, we are returning this name.

His device is registered under the holding name Iain of An Dun Theine.

*****submitted as a resubmission it is actually a change from holding name since a holding name was registered by Laurel. the submitter was notified and the submission type was changed

OSCAR NOTE: the old name was registered in January of 2013, via Northshield.

Old Item: Leah of Schattentor, to be retained as an alternate name.
Submitter desires a feminine name.
No major changes.
Culture (Tang Dynasty China) most important.

This is a Chinese name, and as such the family name appears first. Please note that the documentation for the family name and the personal name come from sources using different romanisation systems. In Wade-Giles romanisation names with multiple syllables are separated by a hyphen, but they are not when using Pinyin.

Ouyang/Ou-yang: Surname, s.n. Ou-yang T'ung, dated to 677 C.E. [Herbert A. Giles, "A Chinese Biographical Dictionary", p.608, https://archive.org/details/chinesebiodictionary00gileuoft]

Yingzhao/Ying-chao: "Ying", as found in Yingzhen, s.n. Niu Yingzhen, dated to

mid-8th century C.E. "Zhao", as found in Ruozhao, s.n. Song Ruozhao, dated to between 770-825 C.E. *****commenters suggested documentaion of Introduction to pre-16th century Chinese onomastics by Ii Katsumori (http://heraldry.sca.org/names/Chinese-Onomastics_v1.1.pdf) has using pinyin:

Ouyang 歐陽, family name between 557 to 1082 CE

The example of Niu Yingzhen (牛應貞) gives us four examples in Ii's article:

Yiingjing 應京, male given name ca. 1550-1600. I'm assuming the doubled ii is a typo.

Yinglung 應龍, male given name, ca. 1282.

Yingpin 應聘, male given name, ca. 1550-1586.

Yingshi 應試, male given name, ca. 1539-1600.

Song Ruozhao (宋若昭) is also productive:

Gongzhao 公昭, masculine courtesy name, ca. 1050-1090

Zizhao 子昭, masculine courtesy name, ca. 1310-1360

But there also is:

Zhizhao 之藻, masculine given name, ca. 1565-1600

this is a possible only and we ask for more help from someone better able to understand Chinese naming practices

Argent, a Latin cross vert between four pine trees proper

Previous submission, Argent, six cypress trees in annulo proper, was returned at Laurel in November 2015.

This badge is being returned for not being reliably blazonable, which is a violation of SENA A1C, which requires an emblazon to be describable in heraldic terms. Here, the arrangement of the trees is not "in annulo", "in orle", "one-two-two-one", or any documented blazonable arrangement.

*****a redarw was approve and submitted by the submitter that enlarge both the cross and the trees also was reblazon to sate the cross is a Latin cross
