2: Arnbjorn Tiernanson -New Name & New Device

Sable, eight cock's combs in annulo front to center Or.

Submitter desires a masculine name.

Submitter is from Borealis.
Consulting Herald is Sadb ingen Thuathail.

Arnbjorn
GB pg 7, Lind pg 35-36.

Tiernanson
The given name "Tighearnán" was in use in late period, as can be seen in the "Annals of the Four Masters" Vol. 6. (http://www.ucc.ie/celt/published/G100005F/ ) Entry M1590-3.3, which mentions Tighearnan Bán mac Briain mic Eoghain Ui Ruairc. Because this name was used in late period, it is logical that there was an Anglicized form of this name. Since no Anglicized forms of the given name have yet been found in period Anglicized records (probably due mainly to the scarcity of such records) we have only period Anglicized forms of bynames formed from Tighearnán to examine.

Woulfe (p. 410 s.n. Mac Tighearnáin) dates M'Tiernane and M'Ternane to temp. Elizabeth I - James I.
Woulfe (p. 652 s.n. Ó Tighearnáin) also dates O Ternane and O Tiernan to the same time period. Given these examples, Tiernan is reasonable as a period Anglicized form of Tighearnán.

See also Tiernan Moor - LoAR February 2003.

By using the anglicized Tiernan (PN1.B.2.c. Lingua Anglica allowance) and to show patronymics, we add the suffix -son; we have Tiernanson.

According to Appendix C: Regional Naming Groups and Their Mixes - Scandinavian and Gaelic are an allowed mix.

12: Inga in hraustliga -Resub Device

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in July of 2008, via An Tir.

Per fess gules and vert, on a chief indented Or, a Talbot passant sable.

Submitter is from Borealis.
Consulting Herald is Sadb ingen Thuathail.

Resubmission History:
An Tir Internal Letter for January 2006 (note that the name "Inga Hraustlig" was changed at Laurel due to a "Request for Consideration" on the July 2008 LoAR to "Inga in hraustliga" which shows on this letter).

Originally submitted in January 2006, and re-submitted again in April 2007:
An Tir Internal Letter for April 2007
Inga hraustlig. Device, Resubmission to Kingdom. Per pale gules and vert, on a chief indented or, a dog passant sable, gorged of a collar argent. Her previous device submission of the same blazon was returned in January 2006 for "…two reasons.

The first reason is that the dog on the chief is in an unblazonable posture. It is neither courant nor passant. The front two legs are in a courant position and the back two legs are in a passant position. However, neither position has the curve to the back as this charge has. The closest posture that any commenters could find was s'elongeant, a posture which has been disallowed for some time.

The second reason is the tincture of the device has changed over time…." Only the second problem has been addressed in this resubmission. Properly drawn passant dogs should have straight backs with the shoulder at or slightly above the height of the rump. One front leg should be straight and on the ground as though he were putting weight on it. The other should be in the air as though he is about to take a step.

The dog has been redrawn.

Quarterly purpure and vert, a triskelion of spirals and a point argent.

Tala.
"Tala" Tala Roure, 10 Feb 1584, San Feliu,Gerona,Gerona,Spain, Batch#M89274-7

of Circle Hill.
"Of Circle Hill" The original name "Taletta of Circle Hill" was returned on the February 2016 LoAR with the following comments:

The given name Taletta could not be documented prior to 1665, with this instance documented from a genealogical site. The earliest instance of this name in the FamilySearch Historical Records' indexed results is dated to 1746. Without evidence to show that this name is found prior to 1650, or that it can be constructed in a manner consistent with period practice (e.g., the formation of diminutives using -etta), we cannot register this name.

Upon resubmission, the submitter should know that Circle Hill is a plausible lingua Anglica form of a constructed Old Norse place name formed from the prototheme Hring- ("circle, ring") and the deuterotheme -hváll ("hill"), documented by ffride wlffsdotter in commentary using "Place-Names in Landnámabók (Incomplete)" by Talan Gwynek (https://web.archive.org/web/20150415064933/http://my.stratos.net/~bmscott/Landnamabok_Place-Names.html). The pattern of marked locative bynames (which include a preposition) is listed for Old Norse names in Appendix A of SENA. Therefore, the byname of Circle Hill was registerable"

Although Appendix C does not allow the mixing of English and Spanish, Lingua Anglica PN1.2c "allow[s] the registration of translations of attested and constructed descriptive and locative bynames into standard modern English."

Therefore Tala of Circle Hill is a plausibly registerable name.

Resub Device. The original device, Quarterly purpure and vert, a triskele argent, inverted. was pended at Kingdom level from the Avacal KLoI of 2015-10-17 since the name was pended. The submitter has slightly changed the device.
