Atenveldt Kingdom ILoI dated 2016-08-25

ATENVELDT COLLEGE OF HERALDS

LETTER OF PRESENTATION 25 August 2016, A.S. LI

Kingdom of Atenveldt

Unto Their Royal Majesties Cosmo Craven and Elzbieta; Baroness Genevieve de Lironcourt, Aten Principal Herald; Heralds in the Atenveldt College of Heralds; and to All Whom These Presents Come,

Greetings from Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy, Brickbat Herald and Parhelium Herald for the Kingdom of Atenveldt!

This is the September 2016 Atenveldt Letter of Presentation; it precedes the Letter of Intent with submissions considered for the next Letter of Intent. Please have commentary to me by 15 September 2016. Please NOTE: This is the second Letter of Presentation for September 2016 from the Kingdom of Atenveldt.

1: Devorix Tiberius Catumaros -New Name & New Device

Gules, in pale a lion's head caboshed and four diamonds conjoined by wings Or, within an orle Or.

I am stumped by the name. No documentation was received, and the local herald says none was supplied to him, so I intend to return the submission (it doesn't help that the client wants a male name and will not accept Major Changes to the submission). However, any clue to the elements Devorix and Catumaros would be helpful (if any exists) to pass on to the client, because I find nothing, other than it sounds vaguely Celtic or Gaulish (and I'm guessing that from old Asterix and Obelix comics).

Tiberius is a Roman praenomen that seems completely out of place here.

The blazon comes directly from the submission form. It seems that it would be more accurate as Gules, in pale a lion's head caboshed and four lozenges in cross winged, an orle Or., similar to the registered armory of Felicia ad Aquam, Argent, four lozenges in cross and a base azure., although the lozenges in her armory have the long axis of the charges horizontally orientes.

2: Eric the Bald -New Device Change

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in October of 2000, via Atenveldt.

Per pale azure and sable, two bear's paw prints argent.

Old Item: Sable, a sledge hammer argent within a bordure rayonny Or., to be retained as a badge.

3: Kaylea of Atenveldt -New Name & New Device

Argent, a chevron enarched within and conjoined at the point with a plain chevron between two butterflies purpure and a tulip gules, slipped and leaved vert.

The client's local herald, Twin Palm Pursuivant, attests that Kaylea is her legal given name.

Atenveldt is the Barony (registered January 1981) and the Kingdom (registered at some point) of residence.

This is Legh's Accedens of Armory, 1576, description of a chevron enarched; the SCA College of Arms expands upon the blazon (not just blazoning it as a simple "chevron enarched") to make sure is it depicted accurately (Bruce Miller, Pictorial Dictionary, http://mistholme.com/?s=chevron).

4: Mercurio da Spin -Resub Device

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in June of 2014, via Atenveldt.

Gyronny arrondi azure and ermine, a sword and a comet inverted crossed in saltire Or.

The original device submission, Per saltire sable and argent, four bats counterchanged., was returned for conflict; this is a complete redesign.

5: Millicent Couture -New Name

Client requests authenticity for French persona.
Meaning most important.

Millicent is found as an English name in the marriage record for Millicent Porter, married 20 Oct 1566 at Ingoldsby, Lincoln, England, Batch M02938-3 (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NVJF-65P).

Couture is found as a christening name for Elye Couture, 18 Feb 1617, Walloon or Strangers Church, Canterbury, Kent, England, Batch C04902-1 (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V5JX-HR7).
