To Konstantia Gold Falcon and the esteemed members of the College of Heralds comes this missive from Shandra Saker. We seek your wise counsel on the following submissions, to prepare them for registration:

1: Aleyn Crawley -New Name

Submitter desires a masculine name.
Language (13-14th Century English) most important.
Culture (13-14th Century English) most important.

Aleyn - masculine given name dated to 1440 found in Withycombe, 3rd ed.c s.n. Allan, p. 7

Crawley - surname found in Reaney and Wilson, 3rd ed., s.n. Crawley, p. 115. Wiliam Craweley is dated to 1397.


2: Alianora Jehannette des Amandiers -New Name

Submitter desires a feminine name.
Spelling (15th Century France, meaning "of the almond trees") most important.

Alianora - feminine given name dated to 1428 in Withycombe, 3rd ed. pg. 96

Jehannette - feminie given name found 6 times in "French Names from Paris, 1421, 1423, 1438" by Aryanhwy merch Catmael, paper copies attached http://heraldry.sca.org/names/french/paris1423.html

des Amandiers - locative meaning "of the almond trees", derived from generic toponym, allowed with French per SENA Appendix A.

SENA Appendix A shows that both French and English had double given names late.

SENA Appendix C shows that French and English names can be combined.


3: Beatriu Samira -New Name

Submitter desires a feminine name.
Sound (Sameera) most important.

Beatriu - feminine given name, found 31 times in "Catalan Names from the 1510 census of Valencia" by Aryanhwy merch Catmael (Sara L. Uckelman. Paper copy included.

Samira - Spanish Surname found in FamilySearch: Catherina Samira, married 25 Oct 1609, Gerona Spain, Batch: M89282-1, https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FFNM-DX3

SENA Appendix C shows that Spanish and Catalan are both in the Iberian regional group.


4: Eydís Markúsdottir -New Name

SENA PN.2.B. Name phrase requirements states: "A registerabel personal name must be made up of at least two name phrases: a given name and at least one byname..." This name fulfills that requirement.


9: Matsunaga Kagetora -New Name & New Device

Sable, two pine trees within two annulets interlace in fess argent.

Language (Japanese) most important.
Culture (Japanese) most important.

Matsunaga (ca. 1600) is a surname found in NCMJ Rev. Ed. p. 322. Though the period is uncertain, p. 404 mentions a famous person, matsunaga Hisahide, dated to 1563.

Kagetora (ca. 1600) is a masculine nanori found in NCMJ Rev. Ed. p. 336.


10: Stephen Baran -New Name & New Device

Per pale sable and argent, two raven's heads erased contourny counterchanged

Stephen - saint's name found in Withycomb p. 273.

Baran - surname found in Reaney and Wilson, p. 27.
