1: Antoine du Marais -New Request for Name Reconsideration

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in February of 2005, via the Middle

Anton du Marais

Spelling (Anton du Marais) most important.

The name was originally submitted as <Anton du Marais> on the August 15 2004 Middle ILoI, and was changed on the October 2004 Middle ILoAR, to <Antoine du Marais>, and accepted in that form on the February 2005 Laurel LoAR.

Links to all three letters can be found here:

http://www.midrealm.org/heraldry/escutcheon/ILoAR/0410LOAR.html

http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2005/02/05-02lar.html

The original documentation provided by the submitter lists:

[Anton] --

Withycombe under Anthony

"Diet of Period Russian Names," by Paul Wickenden of Thanet c. Anton Sholukha 1552

[Marais] -- French for swamp or marshy area. Also one of the oldest districts in Paris "Dictionnaire Etymologigue Des Noms de Famille et Prenoms De France," Albert Dauzet, published 1951, p 413 under Marais

Commentary at the kingdom level notes that the Withycombe citation lists <Anton> as Slav.

Additional research finds the following:

Anton is dated to 1501-1550 in "Late Period German Masculine Given Names" by Talan Gwynek (http://heraldry.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/names/germmasc.html), in the section on names from Plauen, 16th century (Christian names).

IGI gives well over a thousand instances of <Anton> in England, Spain, and Germany with death dates in the 1500's. Any of those should be registerable with French.
