Middle ILoI dated 2013-05-06

Unto Rouge Scarpe, Dragon and the commenting population of the Midrealm and the SCA, does Escutcheon send greetings on this fair May morning, the 6th day of the month, in the 48th year of our Society (2013).

Here you will find the submissions that I have received this past month of April, submitted for your commentary.

1: Bertholmeu MacMolan -Resub Device

OSCAR finds the name registered exactly as it appears in January of 2005, via the Middle

Or, a triquetra vert and a chief potent.

Returned 02/2013 LOAR:

"Bertholmeu MacMolan. Device. Or, a triquetra vert and a chief potent.

This device is returned for redraw, for violating SENA A2C2 which states "Elements must be drawn to be identifiable." The chief here is drawn so low that it can be confused with a per fess field division. If it was reblazoned as Per fess potent and Or, in base a triquetra vert, it would conflict with the badge of Áine inghean Olibhéir uí Cheallaigh, (Fieldless) A triquetra vert, with only one DC for fieldlessness."

2: Galin Ridleye -New Name & New Device

Quarterly azure and argent, a cock's head erased Or.

Submitter desires a masculine name.

<Galin> "John Galin. Christened Apr 1645, Norfolk, Suffolk, England." Batch J06206-2. (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N5Y7-27Q)

The client submits an SCA-HRLDS email conversation with Sara L. Uckelman that asserts that "In late 16th and early 17th C England, there was a pattern of people using surnames as given names, so this is sufficient documentation to register <Galin> as a late-period English masculine given name."

<Ridleye> "Ridleye BOL 1585. BOL: Bolden Marriages 1573 - 1837." Surnames in Durham and Northumberland, 1521-1615 . Kahan, Julie. (http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/juetta/parish/surnames_r.html)

3: Genevieve Perrin -New Name & New Device

Argent, a green hawk hooded and jessed sable, and on a chief vert two hands apaumy in fess fingers outward argent.

Submitter desires a feminine name.
No major changes.
Spelling most important.

<Genevieve> "St. Genevieve, patron saint of France, born c.422 at Nanterre." The Oxford Dictionary of English Christian Names. Withycombe, E.G.

<Perrin> "Perrinus uadletus 1207 P (Nth); Geoffry Perrun 1185 Templars (L); John Perin 1276 RH (C); Diminutives of Perre (Peter) plus the suffixes -in...". A Dictionary of English Surnames. Reaney and Wilson.

Correction (2013-May-06 10:05:19): This is a resubmission. The original submission <Eva Perron> was returned by Laurel November 2011 via the Middle.

Correction (2013-May-06 11:05:46): This is a resubmission. The original was returned for redrawing on the November 2011 LoAR under the name <Eva Perron> . The hands in the original were between fesswise and bendwise, this redraw fixes that problem.

4: Pietro de Sant'Agata di Militello -New Name & New Device

Pietro de Sant'Agata di Militello

Agent, a beard sable and a tierce vert.

Submitter desires a masculine name.

<Pietro> "de Fratre Pietro, 1364" and "de Ser Pietro, 1364". O'Brien. Italian Names from 1364 and 1441: Name Elements. (http://medievalscotland.org/kmo/Confraternities/NameElements.shtml#Masculine)

<Sant'Agata di Militello> "... named after the church dedicated to Saint Agatha of Meleto, seem to date back in 1630 with the construction of Castello Gallego, project of baron Luigi Gallego, in order to defend the coast and for this, perched on a rocky hill which until today overlooks the town center and the ample stretch of coast by the Tyrrhenian sea." 5: Pietro de Sant'Agata di Militello -New Badge

OSCAR is unable to find the name, either registered or submitted.

(Fieldless) A beard vert.

The submitter already has a name and device on this letter, so OSCAR will not let me associate this badge to his name as well.

Yours, in earnest service,

Estelle de la Mer

(formerly Hiordis Ragnarsdottir)

OSCAR counts 3 Names, 4 Devices and 1 Badge. There are a total of 8 items submitted on this letter.
