The fix for disappearing comments caused a bug that's led to some duplicate comments. Mea culpa. Fixed, now.

I think I've fixed the disappearing comments. They're still going to be weirdly indented when you make them, but they should be in the right place once you save them.

There is a bug in the online commenting that, when you start a new edit, all previous inline comments since the last time you loaded the letter will disappear. They're safe and are not deleted. I know why it's happening, too. They will re-appear and stick around if you re-load the letter.

Inline commenting is here ... but it doesn't always work. I think I've worked out the issues specific to Chrome and IE, but there's still one minor bug in the code. Sometimes, you will still get a separate page.

SUBMISSIONS HERALDS: Pairing bug should now be fixed, unless there's more than one bug causing the same symptoms. Much thanks to Marta Brickbat, who kept triggering this bug through no fault of her own.

NOTIFICATION HERALDS: Thanks to Eirik Halfdarnson for pointing out an issue with marking items as issued as hardcopy. The issue meant that the items in question did not disappear from the list. That's been fixed. Pesky boolean logic statements.

Status update: OSCAR seems to have come through the dead drive OK ... at least through April. Anything since April may be missing, or not. It doesn't seem to be, but please check closely.

Some drives on the server have gone bad. This wouldn't be too much of an issue, but the backups seem to be corrupted. Please check to ensure that nothing important is missing.

Thanks to the West for tripping the pairing bug one more time. Yet again, there is a possibility that I've fixed it. Only time will tell.

From Laurel, regarding Laurel level commentary:
Laurel commenters are tasked with assisting Wreath, Pelican, and Laurel in making good decisions on approval or return of devices, based on SENA. Commentary that is secondary to the point at hand risks readers (including the aforementioned) losing the point - a signal-to-noise ratio problem. Sorting through long tangential discussions does take time, and if the point is mixed in there somewhere we spend additional time editing the discussion for clarity's sake. In the days of paper, comments were limited by necessity; while the monetary cost of commentary is now negligible, the time cost as it impacts the length of decision meetings has greatly increased.
I recently addressed this with the Principal Heralds, and it bears repeating here. While I have often said that you can use OSCAR for education, what I mean is that you can use it to review what people are saying and learn from that on both how to comment and how senior heralds are seeing things. Questions not specifically related to the registerability of the submission at hand should be taken offline from OSCAR - approach the person privately, or ask another herald for more information or clarification. This is more respectful of everyone's time.
